Why change corners?
Our grandmother's kitchen wallpaper
a little story behind change corners
Change Corners started in our grandmother's kitchen about four decades ago.
She had a small, square kitchen with formica countertops, patterned mustard wallpaper, and a tiny window framed in cotton curtains.
We come from a family of little means, and so our grandmother was forever inventing low-cost ways for her twelve grandchildren to have big fun.
After cleaning up dinner, she'd announce that it was time to change corners, and we'd all race to find a corner in the kitchen.
We would each pick a corner, and when she said "chaaaaaaaange corners," we'd shuffle our feet and find another corner, bumping into one another and giggling.
Sometimes, you'd find yourself alone in the corner.
Sometimes, you'd shuffle out, turn around, and wind up in the same corner.
But every game, there was always one round where we'd all wind up in the same corner, laughing uproariously as we fell all over one another. That's usually when we knew we'd won.
This isn't really intended to be a deep metaphor. It's just a little reminder that joy and innovation can be sparked anywhere, and that tiny, humble acts can lead to loads of goodness.
